Overage Billing
Gumlet bandwidth billing and overage charges
Why am I being billed for exceeding bandwidth on the free / paid plan, and how can I avoid it?
Gumlet offers various plans, including a free plan designed with specific limitations. Below, we'd like to provide detailed insights into billing occurrences, including plan constraints and steps to avoid them.
Each Gumlet plan includes allocated bandwidth and storage. If you exceed it, you will either be asked to upgrade your plan or charged an overage fee. Please look at our pricing page to see the inclusions for each plan and the overage fees.
How does billing work?
Once your streaming exceeds the free plan limit, a provisional invoice is generated to cover the overage charges. This invoice may include details on the extra bandwidth used and the associated cost.
How are overage charges calculated?
Gumlet charges for two types of overage: bandwidth and storage. Each plan includes a monthly allowance for both: once you exceed either, overage fees apply on top of your subscription cost.
- Bandwidth overage: charged per GB of video delivery beyond your plan's monthly allowance. Bandwidth resets at the start of each billing cycle.
- Storage overage: charged per GB of video stored beyond your plan's limit. Storage is measured continuously, not monthly.
You can view your current usage at any time on the Billing page in your dashboard.
For exact overage rates, see the Gumlet Pricing Page.
Why did I receive an unexpected overage charge?
Common reasons include:
- A spike in video views — high-traffic events can consume bandwidth quickly
- Leaving videos stored after removing them from your website/app — storage charges apply until videos are fully deleted from Gumlet
- Encoding at multiple resolutions — each rendition counts toward storage
- Bandwidth from the current day isn't shown in the Upcoming Invoice estimate; it appears on the final invoice.
If you believe a charge is incorrect, contact support with the invoice date and a description - we can review your usage logs.
Avoiding bandwidth charges on the Free plan?
If you wish to avoid such charges while streaming on Gumlet:
- Monitor your monthly bandwidth usage diligently to ensure it stays within the free plan limits.
- Upgrade to the paid plan to get additional storage and bandwidth. Upgrading is especially beneficial for users with consistent or high usage.

What happens to an existing overage invoice after upgrading?
If you decide to upgrade to a paid plan before the end of the current billing cycle, any overage invoice generated while on the free plan will be voided. This ensures billing fairness for users transitioning to a paid plan.
Important Notes:
- Ensure you complete the upgrade before the billing cycle ends to avoid paying the overage invoice.
